TRAINING AND DISCIPLINE

Ballet is based on techniques that have been developed over centuries. It uses music and dance to tell stories – dancers have the ability to transport an audience to a whole other world. It enables students to improve their agility, coordination, flexibility, grace and strength. Teachers may utilise a barre for support during lessons.

‘POINTE’ TECHNIQUE

Ballet is probably best known for the ‘pointe’ technique, which requires dancers to wear shoes that are specially designed for dancing on their toes. It is important to remember that this is only one facet of ballet and that it will take many years of training to get to this point. The correct training and discipline will aid with this development.

WHAT TO WEAR?

Ballet students are required to wear ballet shoes, a leotard with tights and a ballet skirt
